Why is Gorilla tracking such an expensive wildlife experience?
To understand this, I recommend that you watch the Netflix original "Virunga". Virunga mountains are beautiful and magical with lush green mountains, steaming volcanoes and home to mountain gorillas. Unfortunately for the gorillas, the area is also rich in oil and rare metals. This makes it very difficult to protect this region from exploitation. However if tourism can bring in enough money to compete with the windfall the locals land owners and government will see from oil and rare metal mining, then there may be hope.
So when you pay a large amount of money for permits for the gorilla experience or hiking up the Nyiragonga volcano (deemed to be one of the most beautiful places in Africa), it goes towards the conservation of this magical place and the gorillas that live here.
Expedition Cost - $2350 per person
PERMITS(optional/not included but recommended) :
- Gorilla tracking in Congo - $400
- Trekking the Nyiragongo Volcano and staying at the rim - $300
- Golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes national park - $100
- Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impeneterable National Park - $650
- Chimpanzee tracking in Kinzulu - $100
Total for all permits if you so choose: $1550
(For two Gorilla experience permits, Volcano trek permit, Chimpanzee tracking and Golden monkey tracking permit)

Where are we going to stay?
The accommodation is not luxurious but still comfortable. Most days it's a lodge or tented cottages with ensuite bathrooms.
What all is included/excluded?
Included:
All accommodation starting with Kigali and ending with Lake Elizabeth National park.
All meals starting with dinner on day 1 and lunch on day 9.
4 X 4 Safari vehicle with a pop up roof for game drives in Lake Elizabeth National park.
All transportation starting from lodge in Kigali and back to Kigali.
All Taxes/VAT
Excluded:
Tips (tipping guideline US$10 pp per day).
Visa fees
Any meals should you choose to have them at another restaurant, any entree, appetizer, drink etc. ordered that is not included as part of set meal or buffet. Alcoholic beverages.
Personal items like souvenirs, travel insurance, etc.
